Ep. 2 — The StrongArm Data Flex

ONE WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT FROM MILLIONS OF DATA POINTS

This is the second iteration of Data Flex – for the first, head here

Each week, StrongArm’s Senior Manager, Data, Aoife, will plumb our considerable data depths and pull out one tasty morsel for you to chew on. (Our data team processes more than 2 millions hours of safety data every month, so there’s a lot to choose from.)

Throw it out during your next Zoom call and watch coworkers’ eyes widen in disbelief. (You’re welcome.) Better yet, consider it an opportunity to evaluate safety in your own workplace. Can anything be improved there?

Here’s Aoife:

“When looking at specific body types impacted by work-related musculoskeletal injuries, the pelvis – or more broadly, the hips – is the area that leads to the most days missed from work. In fact, injuries to that region of the body resulted in approximately 123 days of work missed per worker in 2018 — double the second highest category.

We know injuries can take a significant toll on workers and their families, but this data set is both enlightening and jarring at once. For a musculoskeletal injury to the hips, a worker may need to be out of work for 4 months or more. And for the top 10 body parts with the highest median callout time, an individual could be out of work for almost 2 months or more on average.”
